About Us

DSCF3263The Nashville Professionals Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) started with the spark to do good; to give back beyond the confines of the 9-5 professional engineering experience.  In 2008 a group of colleagues, peers, college roommates, and friends came together to create a channel for this need. EWB provided the framework to build the type of organization that was envisioned by these engineers. The Chapter has provided a vehicle for developing sustained local volunteerism, engineering outreach, and exciting opportunities to apply our engineering talents in the developing world.

The mission of EWB is to support community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders. The Chapter has been involved with two international projects and is currently working to improve water quality in Guatemala.  These experiences have been transformative to those who have been part of them.  They have been able to see the diversity of living outside of the US, the often stark conditions of the developing world, and how engineering can play a huge role in the life of those in need.

IMG_2322The Chapter has grown through the years and our membership reflects the diversity of engineering in Nashville.  We come from across the spectrum of engineering including Environmental, Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, Electrical, Computer, and Construction professionals.   Our members work in the private and public settings and have a diverse level experience from recent graduates to registered professional engineers. We are active in giving back in Middle Tennessee volunteering with the Cumberland River Compact, Second Harvest Food Bank, Tools for Schools, and residential remodeling projects.  We have an active social component bringing together like minded colleagues for Predator’s games, trivia, culinary adventures, cookouts, and the occasional pub visit.

All of us come together to celebrate the engineering profession through service and friendship.  Each of us joined EWB for unique reasons but we all share the desire to make the world a better place.  Come join us and build your passion.
